Bioceramic MoonSwatch Collection

by Omega x Swatch

This is a set of eleven Swiss-made watches by Swatch (in collaboration with Omega) each named after a planet in the Solar System, together with one for the Sun and another for the dwarf planet, Pluto. They are based on the legendary “OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch” famous for being the first watch worn on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission and chosen by NASA for all manned space missions since 1965.

Instead of having typical stainless steel cases, these watches are made from the manufacturer's special “Bioceramic” material. This composite material has been developed for its strength, durability and softness. A blend of two-thirds zirconium oxide powder and one-third bio-sourced material derived from castor oil, it is very light and adapts to the body's temperature for added comfort.

The watches have the iconic asymmetrical 42mm stainless steel case, three subdials, and a bezel featuring a “dot over 90” tachymeter scale which is useful for measuring speed over a known distance. The hour, minute, and chronograph seconds hands as well as the hour markers sport “Super-LumiNova” strontium aluminate–based non-radioactive and nontoxic photoluminescent pigment for a perfect glow in the dark.

The double-bevelled back cases also have a few interesting design features: the battery cover has an image of the planetary body that inspired the design and each is printed with the “mission text” and inspirational words “DREAM BIG – FLY HIGHER – EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE – REACH FOR THE PLANETS.”

If you want to get your hands on one note that they are only available for purchase at selected Swatch stores worldwide and limited to one watch per person, per day, and per store!
