NASA Space Posters / James Webb Telescope Photos

by Displates

“Displates” are posters printed onto 3.5mm thick stainless steel plate. As well as providing something more substantial and higher quality than standard prints, Displates have been designed to be easy to put up and take down. The “Safe Wall Magnet Mounting System” does not need standard fixings, hooks or brackets. Instead, a small self-adhesive sheet is applied to the wall to protect it. A self-adhesive magnet is then placed within the guide on the sheet and the Displate is mounted over the magnet. The whole process is meant to take less than a minute.

Displate claim to have 1.5 million different artworks currently available, both licensed and unique. Within their vast library are over 270 artworks inspired by NASA, such as astrophotography, mission posters, insignia and JPL's, stylistic space tourism posters from the “Visions of the Future” series. This fun set of images was produced by a group of nine artists in close collaboration with JPL scientists and engineers.

Another noteworthy set is the James Webb Telescope (JWST) Photos. This currently contains over 60 of the best images from NASA's new space telescope. Scanning the heavens in infrared and near-infrared, JWST's images of galaxies and nebulae have surpassed those produced by Hubble in both detail and clarity. Amongst the collection are classics such as the cosmic cliffs of the Carina Nebula (NGC 3324), the upward-reaching fingers of the Eagle Nebula's "Pillars of Creation" (M16) and some deep-field images of the earliest galaxies that have caused such a stir amongst the astronomical community.

Most images come in two sizes: Medium 45cm/32cm (17.72in./12.6in.) or Large 67.5cm/48cm (26.60in./18.90in.). Finishes are either Matte or a “gently reflective” Gloss for extra contrast and vibrancy. The “Pillars of Creation” picture noted above also comes in a textured finish that uses a mixture of matt & gloss areas and a 3D-enhanced print to emphasize edges and details
